About the Night of the Refugee

The Stichting Vluchteling has been organising the annual Refugee Night since 2010 and in these years, it has grown into a significant event. The Night of the Refugee is a charity event in which thousands of participants walk 10, 20, or 40 kilometres in various provinces throughout the country.

How far will you go in fear of war and violence?

There are routes from Rotterdam to The Hague, from Nijmegen to Arnhem, from Utrecht to Amersfoort and from Amsterdam to Haarlem.  The starting shot sounds at exactly midnight. On Saturday evening, there are also routes of 10 and 20 kilometres in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Nijmegen. The participants of the 10 and 20 kilometres start at 7 pm in the evening and the participants of the 40 kilometres start at 00:00. It is a tough but unforgettable experience.

What is the goal?

To raise as much money as possible for people who are fleeing war, conflict and oppression worldwide. In addition to raising money, the walkers also raise awareness in a positive way of refugees worldwide.

The Night of the Refugee 2020 & 2021

2020 was the year in which everything was a little different than usual and that was, of course, also true for the Night of the Refugee. We launched a digital edition of the event that enabled the thousands of participants to walk in their own environment via an app, and thus still participate. On World Refugee Day, June 20th, everyone walked the final kilometres alone, yet together.

This year, we would again like to walk the 12th edition of the Night of the Refugee with thousands of participants in eight cities. Due to the coronavirus, however, we cannot organise the event in this form. But it is precisely NOW that emergency aid is most needed. That is why we have come up with an alternative event, in which we want to plan the 40-kilometre routes in 6 cities. Look for more information on our #NVDV21 page.
